The IAPT service offers evidence-based psychological therapies as recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), and delivers these treatments through a stepped-care model. ‘Stepped care’ means that clients are offered the type of intervention that is best suited to their needs. Public health data demonstrates a significant need for psychological help in Sutton and Merton, and more widely across the country. National statistics show that about one in six people suffer from symptoms of depression or anxiety at any point in time. Correspondingly, our local service is commissioned to assess and treat nearly 6,000 clients per year. Despite these high numbers, the service’s recovery rates (as measured via self-report measures completed by clients at each session) compare favourably with those achieved by other IAPT services nationally and our waiting times are among the best in London.
